Our Story

Our Story

On May, 2012, Jorge and his family lived in Dominican Republic , one morning Jorge complained to his parents of pain in the left knee, he was 8 years old at the time and a very talented Tae Kwon Do athlete. Jorge’s parents took him to the hospital that same day, only to receive a parent’s worst nightmare, Jorge had osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer, on his left knee.

Jorge was accepted for treatment in St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and in order to receive the best medical treatment a family of 5 split. Mommy and Jorge traveled to Memphis, daddy, Alejandra and Jorge’s twin brother, Manel stayed in Dominican Republic.

At such a difficult time, the family was able to focus on Jorge’s needs without the worries of being away from his loved ones. Mom and Jorge stayed at their “home away from home” close to the hospital without financial distress.

Unfortunately, our beloved Jorge, the always healthy, funny, caring, loving, and incredibly attached to his twin brother Manel, passed away on December 27, 2014. His love and fighting spirit were an example to all. Today his name is attached to his legacy, and our hearts are attached to his “ home away from home”, Jorge’s Treehouse.
